About Vanderbilt Student Communications:

Vanderbilt Student Communications (VSC) supports 13 student-run campus media organizations including a recording studio two radio stations a video studio newspaper yearbook and multiple specialty publications and websites. VSC provides students with professional-grade tools facilities and advising to pursue journalism and creative media outside the classroom.

About the Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students enriches student life at Vanderbilt through a wide array of co-curricular programs services and support structures. We value curiosity collaboration and equity and take pride in fostering an inclusive environment where students grow as leaders creators and citizens.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Monitor studio reservation system and provide access to approved users.
  • Assist students with basic or advanced recording setup (as needed and based on your skills).
  • Maintain studio equipment and software; report technical issues or suggestions to staff.
  • Help manage check-in/check-out for portable video and photo equipment.
  • Occasionally assist with the operation of streaming station VandyRadio.
  • Lift and move equipmentup to 40 lbs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Media and does not supervise other employees.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • Friendly collaborative attitude with a commitment to helping students succeed
  • At least two years of relevant experience in recording sound engineering or similar work.
  • Familiarity with digital audio consoles and recording software (e.g. Garage Band Pro Tools Logic etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and learn new equipment quickly
  • Familiarity with Mac OS environments
  • Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive studio space
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Experience in education or working with students a plus
  • Video production skills are helpful but not required
