The Embalming Supervisor oversees all embalming operations within a funeral home or mortuary setting ensuring that deceased individuals are prepared for burial or cremation in a respectful safe and legally compliant manner. This role includes supervising staff maintaining equipment and supplies and ensuring adherence to California state laws and health regulations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained throughout the preparation process for the decedent; embalming disinfecting dressing preparing and casketing of the deceased using appropriate precautions and OSHA standards
- Perform embalming procedures including draining fluids and injecting preservative chemicals.
- Apply restorative art and cosmetics for viewings.
- Train all staff and strictly enforce all logging identification casket and cremation procedures
- Monitors daily service and staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage
- Always maintain reverence and respect for the deceased
- Monitor and maintain proper supply levels
- Maintain accurate records of embalming procedures and inventory.
- Inspect and maintain embalming equipment and workspaces.
- Manage scheduling and workflow to meet service deadlines.
- Uphold high standards of hygiene safety and professionalism.
- Ensure compliance with California Department of Consumer Affairs and Cemetery and Funeral Bureau regulations.
Qualifications
- Current Embalmers license in California
- Minimum 3 years of embalming experience; supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong commitment to providing the highest level of customer care
- High level of compassion and integrity
- Problem solving skills
- Knowledge of Federal and state regulations re: funeral profession
- Strong knowledge of anatomy chemistry and infection control.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs.; team lift for heavier loads.
- Proficiency in recordkeeping and basic computer applications.
