ADA Australia is seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who is deeply connected to community and committed to culturally safe practices to join our Yarn2Action team.

About the role
As a Disability Advocate-Yarn2Action you will provide high-quality individual advocacy information referral and direct support to clients across Rockhampton Mackay and the Wide Bay region. Youll support individuals to uphold their human rights access services (including NDIS) and build community connections in a culturally safe and inclusive way.
This is an Identified position. ADA Australia considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act QLD 1991.
Key duties
Deliver culturally safe advocacy for people with disability focusing on rights access and protection from abuse or discrimination
Conduct respectful intake assessments and determine appropriate support pathways
Build networks and partnerships with community organisations and service providers
Represent ADA Australia at community events forums and workshops
Identify service gaps and contribute to policy and procedure improvements
Maintain accurate records and meet service targets
Participate in team meetings case discussions and quality improvement initiatives
About you
A tertiary qualification in human services social work behavioural science or equivalent experience
Experience advocating for people with disability within a social justice framework
Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and disability services
Excellent communication engagement and negotiation skills
Strong administrative and computer skills
Essential requirements
Current drivers licence
National criminal history check (less than 3 years old)
Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Working with Children Blue Card
Willingness to travel regionally including occasional overnight trips
