The Department of History and Political Science is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Political Science. Responsibilities will begin mid-August 2026. Academic rank will be based on degrees and experience and the compensation level also depends upon the education and experience of the appointee. Job Description:
The Department of History and Political Science is seeking a candidate capable of excellent will be given to applicants with expertise in Comparative Politics and ability to instruct in Research Methods.
The Department of History and Political Science offers B.A. degrees in History Political Science and International Studies. The department is also home to an online undergraduate program in Public Administration. We also house many of the courses that are a core part of the universitys Womens Studies minor and we work in collaboration with the School of Theology and Christian Ministry on the Theology Peace and Justice Department has seven full-time faculty members including three who currently teach in Political Science and International Studies.
Responsibilities begin August 2026.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate in-person courses on our main campus in the areas of comparative politics research methods environmental politics and/or introductory political science courses.
Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues students and community members (both on and off campus).
Advise students academically spiritually and professionally.
Establish a research program and publish regularly.
Participate in departmental activities and governance.
Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties.
Contribute toward preparing students for their post graduate career.
Required Qualifications:
Education minimum: MA in political science or related field and at least two (2) years in a doctoral program in the same - or very closely related - field as the MA.
Subject Matter Expertise: Expertise in Comparative Politics Research Methods Environmental Politics or Introductory Political Science.
Teaching: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student mentoring. Candidates are requested to submit teaching evaluations if they have such experience.
Philosophical: Commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church addition faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNUs Community Life Covenant.
The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU will consider qualified applicants including those with criminal histories in a manner consistent with state and local Fair Chance laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: PhD in political science or related field
Experience: Post-doctoral experience preferred.
Research Accomplishments: Evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals presenting at academic conferences or other professional dissemination of research.
Service: Evidence of university community or professional service.
Interpersonal: Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills are desired including evidence of contributions to diversity in teaching research and community engagement.
