Shift: 8a-4:30p

Located at our Emory University Hopsital Inpatient hospital pharmacy

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Pharmacy Automation Specialist practices in a setting of inpatient retail or infusion area within the institution. Under general supervision the Pharmacy Automation Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospitals automated pharmacy dispensing systems. Reviews and analyzes application systems including testing debugging and installing to support departmentally based client/server software applications. Effectively isolates and troubleshoots problems across the spectrum of application delivery. Uses experience in at least one operating systems and programs. Tunes end user reports for performance efficiency. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts practices and procedures within the Pharmacy department including quality control and backup and recovery. A limited degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Responds timely to customers needs by answering phone calls receiving and distributing messages and triaging requests appropriately. Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements including the examination of product integrity and expiration. Maintains competency and follows departmental OSHA USP and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle prepare distribute and dispose of hazardous products. Follows and implements Emory Healthcare PLEDGE and care transformational model in all activities and interactions. Demonstrates teamwork recognizes peers and contributes to continuous quality improvement initiatives. Embraces change in a dynamic work environment. Appropriately reports safety concerns and/or forwards opportunities to appropriate pharmacy personnel. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends practices and developments. Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Assists pharmacists and technicians and other staff in the safe effective and efficient operation of the automated medication distribution process. Coordinates set up new builds installations and expansions ensuring that all systems such as network emergency power space etc are ready for implementation. Ensures all systems are updated to conform with changes to the medication formulary or pharmacy regulations. Optimizes inventory of medications within the automation system and ensures optimal and consistent configuration settings. Establishes training necessary for each user group to effectively use system and creates training modules. Assists with operational support functions including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Appropriately reports and reviews safety concerns and/or opportunities to enhance pharmacy services. Monitors safety and efficacy of automation by generating and analyzing available reports Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree and one year of application systems/administration experience OR four years of pharmacy experience without a degree. Must have one year relevant experience with application support. Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program (or equivalent) or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred. Four years of related pharmacy experience required with proficiency in pharmacy automation utilization. Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license. Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers typing reading writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work and tasks. Environmental exposure include but are not limited to Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-Hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shocks Floor Surfaces Hot/Cold Temperatures Indoors/Outdoor conditions Latex Lighting Patient care/handling injuries Radiation Shift work. Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment including respirators may be required.
