About Berry Street and Berry Street School

Berry Street is one of Australias largest independent community service organisations supporting over 35000 children young people and families across Victoria each year. As a not-for-profit we are committed to diversity inclusion and trauma-informed evidence-based practice.

The Berry Street School is a specialist independent secondary school with campuses in Ballarat Morwell Narre Warren and Shepparton. We work with students who have experienced complex trauma and are at risk of disengaging from education.

We offer:

  • Years 710: Adapted Victorian Curriculum
  • Years 1112: VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)

Our approach includes the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) flexible and individualised learning plans small class sizes therapeutic support and strong family and community engagement.

About the Role

The Classroom Teacher plays a vital role in delivering high-quality education and supporting the wellbeing of students at the Berry Street School. This role involves planning and teaching an engaging curriculum building positive relationships with students and supporting their academic and social-emotional development through trauma-informed strengths-based approaches.

  • $80K$110K (dependent on years of experience) Super Salary Packaging
  • Full-time Ongoing (2026 school year)
  • Based at Shepparton Campus with opportunities to collaborate across Berry Street School campuses

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop plan and teach curriculum tailored to students individual needs.
  • Support students academic growth by monitoring outcomes and providing timely feedback.
  • Implement the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) in classrooms to promote engagement and wellbeing.
  • Create and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Focus Plans for students.
  • Use data and evidence-based strategies to inform planning teaching and assessment.
  • Build strong relationships with students families and care teams to support learning.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment aligned with the schools vision of thrive achieve belong.
  • Actively contribute to staff collaboration professional learning and continuous improvement.

About You

Essential:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education (or equivalent qualification suitable for teaching).
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS).
  • Capacity to use positive trauma-informed strategies to create safe and inclusive learning environments.
  • Experience developing engaging curriculum tailored to diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to assess monitor and report on student progress using data-informed approaches.
  • Strong communication skills with students families and staff.
  • Commitment to Berry Streets values child safety diversity and inclusion.

Desirable:

  • Special Education qualification.
  • Experience delivering literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Experience and/or training with the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM).
  • Willingness to teach an elective (Arts Health Wellness PE or Technologies).
