SCHOOL INFORMATION
NorthPointe Christian Schools isan independent Christian school formed in 1972 serving over 1300 preschool through high school students from over 120 churches. HIGHLIGHTS
We are seeking a bus driver for our morning shuttle and other trips that occur through the day. This position will average 15-20 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES
- Transport students on the morning between campuses.
- Transport students to field trips and other events.
- Assist Athletic Department with transportation to and from athletic events.
- Exercise safety responsibility and care for the school vehicle in operation and possession.
- Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.
- Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions.
- Follow the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
- Regularly check vehicle safety such as tires brakes turn signals mechanical equipment etc. Do not operate the vehicle with any defect that would prevent safe operation.
- Monitor and report fuel consumption mileage and passenger numbers.
- Report delays accidents and emergencies.
- Maintain a clean vehicle.
- Operate the vehicle in a manner consistent with reasonable practices that avoid abuse theft or neglect.
- Obey all traffic laws. Obey requirements for seat belt usage.
- Refrain from smoking in a school vehicle.
- Refrain from the use of a cell phone while driving. Use cell phone when parked only.
- Model Biblical character and integrate Biblical principles and Scripture into daily interactions with students and staff. Minister to students through prayer encouragement and wise counsel.
- Support the Schools Foundational Statements and mission through word and deed.
- Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus. Define responsible Christian behavior for students when on the bus including guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior.
- Follow procedures and protocols in the Employee Handbook. Be knowledgeable on guidelines for driving and interacting with students including making all efforts to avoid driving alone with a student especially of the opposite gender.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Active Christian in agreement and willing to sign the NorthPointe Christian Schools Foundational statements.
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
- CDL license with S&P Endorsement required.
- Previous experience as a bus driver and working with children preferred.
- Working knowledge of first aid procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and can communicate effectively and positively with students and staff.
- Clean driving record that meets the requirements of the NorthPointe Christian Schools insurance company primarily including no previous conviction of a felony alcohol or drug-related offense while driving or excessive speeding violations or chargeable accidents.
- Able to meet deadlines and perform duties with time constraints.
- Able to pass required background checks and fingerprint screening.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physically able to:
- Frequently sit for extended periods of time.
- Frequently use manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects and operate equipment.
- Use foot controls to drive.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally lift move push or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Use close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision night/dusk vision depth perception and possess the ability to adjust focus.
- Sufficiently hear conversations in person and distinguish sounds clearly.
- Depress fuel and brake pedal with right foot and leg requiring 70 psi.
- Use steps to enter and exit buses step down 3.5 feet to exit emergency door.
- Must be able to maintain continuous safety of the students and respond quickly and appropriately to any threat toward their well-being. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment.
- The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products degreasers gases fumes cleaning products and sprays.
- The employee will be required to work in outside weather conditions while driving and loading/unloading students.
- The noise level in the work environment is often loud and occasionally very loud.
