Position Summary:
Senior Archaeologist/Principal Investigator. Responsible for scheduling managing and conducting Phase I-III fieldwork and research associated with archaeological projects. Responsible for writing all or portions of archaeological reports at the direction of the Section Head. The qualified candidate for this position will oversee Phase I-III archaeological work in the Mid-Atlantic Southeast and surrounding states. Opportunities for growth and to aid in growing the cultural resources group.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Conducts archaeological field work with the ability to identify artifacts and determine the presence of archaeological sites.
Collects data and field samples during archaeological investigations.
Analyzes historic and pre-historic artifacts.
Documents methodologies and findings of research and archaeological investigations.
Reviews and writes archaeological reports and/or prepares archaeological site forms.
Assists in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to archaeological resources.
Works with technical field lab and office staff managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet JMT and professional quality standards.
Assists in business development through the preparation of proposals budgets and other marketing materials.
Coordinates with clients throughout project to ensure that projects meet JMT and professional quality standards and stays on schedule and budget.
Required Skills
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Required Experience
Masters Degree from an accredited school in anthropology or a closely related field.
Must meet the Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
8 years of experience.
Regional (Mid-Atlantic or Southeast) experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology.
Experience leading a project team from start to finish.
Demonstrated skills and supervisory experience in Phase I-III fieldwork.
Must be able to provide a writing sample from either a thesis dissertation or archaeological report.
Must possess a valid drivers license.
Registered Professional Archaeologist (or ability to become registered).
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation ArcMap and/or other GIS programs.
Experience with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations.
MUST HAVE:
Masters Degree from an accredited school in anthropology or a closely related field.
