Job Description

The LTS elementary school guidance counselor provides a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K through 2 consults with teachers staff and parents to enhance students education and has a strong understanding of special education students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PA Certification inelementary school counseling required.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Proficient in technology and educational applications and programs in school guidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code).
  • Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code).
  • FBI Criminal History Record.
  • Submission of a child abuse history clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services in accordance with Act 151 of 1994.
  • Training in suicide risk and threat assessment protocol training preferred
  • ESAP trained preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Counsel groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans.
  • Oversee student scheduling report cards transcripts etc.
  • Collaborate with teachers staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students and seek community resources when necessary.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as requested.
  • Maintain records transcripts and files for students on caseload.
  • Conduct counseling activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers.
  • Consult with teachers to facilitate theinfusionof counseling learning activities into the regular education curricula.
  • Participate in the Elementary Student Assistance Program (ESAP).
  • Respond to crisis situations when appropriate.
  • Attend evening parent meetings and other parent information meetings including the Chapter 339 Advisory Council.
  • Case manage student 504s building wide.
  • Facilitate student participation in standardized testing.
  • Maintain close working relationships with the community state agencies and area businesses.
  • Complete threat and suicide risk assessments given training protocol followed by the District. Stay current in these practices.
  • Any other duties related to counseling as assigned.

REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY:Elementary Principal

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to reach above and below the waist.
  • Ability to use fingers to pick feel and grasp objects.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
  • Ability to sit walk stand or move throughout the work environment often with extended periods of the workday.

SENSORY ABILITIES:

  • Visual acuity
  • Auditory acuity

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Typical office environment
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions

TEMPERAMENT:

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Able to make judgments and work under high level of stress

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to exercise good judgment

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Must possess leadership skills
  • Must possess computer skills
  • Ability to operate various office equipment
  • Must maintain required Professional Development as per the Pennsylvania Department of Education

Location: WestPottsgrove Elementary School
Compensation:
$282.29 per day
Benefits:
Eligible for healthcare benefits and the state retirement system (PSERS).
Assignment:
Long-term substitue


Must have current Act 34 151 & 114 Clearances
