Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Global Finance is leading a significant transformation that seeks to embed data driven decision making in our business processes across the enterprise. This transformation requires the development of new data infrastructure and platforms capabilities in advanced analytics and an innovative and inclusive approach to decision making.
The Senior Director Finance Data Science will lead the development and implementation of transformative data science engineering and digital solutions for J&Js Global Finance organization. This position will have strategic oversight of a diverse skilled global team to advance our data science and AI initiatives ensuring impactful insights and automated solutions that enhance financial operations across the globe. The role will be based in the U.S. with preference for New Brunswick NJ.
Role and Responsibilities:
Global Leadership & Strategy: Provide visionary leadership to a diverse and talented global team of Data Scientists Data Engineers and Machine Learning Engineers. Shape the strategic direction and drive the execution of compelling data science and AI initiatives to advance J&Js Global Finance function ensuring methods align with the overall business strategy. Ensures that the team builds and maintains world-class data pipelines business intelligence and analytics solutions. Stay ahead of emerging trends by ensuring J&Js AI and future finance technologies remain industry-leading and innovative. Continuously monitor evaluate and implement cutting-edge solutions to maintain a competitive advantage.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with senior finance and business leaders across various regions to define and prioritize high-impact data science initiatives. Ensure that these initiatives bring substantial value enhance operational efficiencies and improve user experiences across all finance functions.
Business Insight Translation: Leverage deep insights into global business dynamics and challenges to translate strategic objectives into practical actionable data science and engineering projects. Champion the prioritization of initiatives that align closely with financial performance metrics and operational goals ensuring relevance and impact.
Predictive Analytics Development: Lead the advancement of sophisticated predictive modeling and analytics capabilities aimed at enhancing the accuracy of financial forecasting. Foster a data-driven decision-making culture enabling stakeholders to leverage insights derived from robust analytics in their strategic planning.
Performance Measurement & Reporting: Establish robust metrics and reporting frameworks to assess the performance and impact of data science initiatives ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and transparency to leadership.
Team Development: Foster a high-performance culture within the team by providing mentorship and opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth. Accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback. Responsible for managing operational aspects of their teams (e.g. budget performance and compliance) as well as implementing workforce and succession plans to meet business needs.

Oversee the complete lifecycle of data science projects from inception through design development and deployment to adoption in real-world applications. Drive a culture of continuous improvement and optimization ensuring that all stages of project delivery meet high standards of quality and effectiveness.
Collaborate effectively with senior finance and business leaders across various regions to define and prioritize high-impact data science initiatives. Ensure that these initiatives bring substantial value enhance operational efficiencies and improve user experiences across all finance functions. Leverage deep insights into global business dynamics and challenges to translate strategic objectives into practical actionable data science and engineering projects. Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required. Preference for computer science engineering science economics business analytics data science finance or any other quantitative or STEM discipline.
Advanced degrees are a plus.
10 years of Data Science/AI experience in an industry setting preferably in a Finance and/or Healthcare and/or pharmaceutical setting but open to all industries.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in end-to-end production deployment from concept to production-grade models and experienced with Gen AI technologies like AWS Bedrock Azure OpenAI service and Joule
Demonstrated ability to lead & get things done through influence toward a common vision versus line responsibility is required
A visionary strategic thinker with the ability to bring clarity to complex concepts and to translate business needs into operational finance / technology solutions
Proficiency to network collaborate and generate consensus effectively in a complex matrixed environment possessing strong communication skills promoting inclusion and building trusting relationships with business partners across all levels of the organization is required
Experience leading global & virtual teams by developing talent & culture. Minimum of 7 years of experience leading teams
Ability to break down understand and solve very complex problems to enable high level leadership to understand / make decisions
Ability to translate complex technical information into understandable and explainable business solutions to senior leaders.
Expertise in continuous process improvement techniques and methods
Innovative mindset with the ability to translate business needs into technology solutions
Skilled at developing strong relationships with executive leadership team members
Experience with large-scale transformation and process change efforts
Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
A team player and able to work collaboratively with/through others
The expected base pay range for this position is $174000 to $275000.
Under current guidelines this position is eligible for participation in this program in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs such as health insurance savings plan pension plan disability plan vacation pay sick time holiday pay and work personal and family time off in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
