Electrocoat/PLC - Maintenance Lead Supervisor

In this position

Position Duties:

Drive SQCDPME by understanding and consistently applying standard manufacturing operating system processes. Validate and bridge operational needs to ensure the line is running safely smoothly and producing quality parts.

• Safety
  • Ensure department compliance with government industry and corporate standards
  • Review department safety metrics and coordinate improvement activities
  • Serve as maintenance liaison for Arc Flash updates Construction Service Safety audits/compliance checks and inter-department Pre-Task Analyses
• Quality
  • Direct data-driven maintenance processes to improve quality metrics (e.g. higher FTT less scrap less contamination etc.)
  • Devise and implement strategy to tighten tolerances within specifications for fit form and functionality
• Delivery
  • Coordinate the resources and activities required to ensure problem free start-ups
  • Facilitate start-up/shift-to-shift meetings
  • Facilitate constraint analysis and coordinate activities to eliminate bottlenecks
• Cost
  • Promote and ensure continuous improvement in the manufacturing engineering organization toward the common goal of improving product quality plant competitiveness and total cost structure
  • Monitor control and improve Maintenance Cost Per Unit (MCPU)
  • Optimize throughput in accordance with budgets and cost objectives: meet or beat schedule
  • Manage and support material control (spare part inventory) repair and rebuild programs and reliability and maintainability reviews
• People
  • Supervise UAW hourly employees (mostly skilled trades)
  • Communication and Recognition
  • Participate in Time & Data Management meetings for scheduling staffing procurement equipment maintenance inventory control constraint analysis and the coordination of production activities with codependent departments
  • Build Team Leaders and Team Members capabilities mentor subordinates
  • Create a conducive work environment for the team(s) to complete their assigned responsibilities / tasks; build and nurture a One Team environment
  • Basic Administration of supervisory responsibilities and documents
• Maintenance
  • This role is the lead for maintaining our Electrocoat Operation. Experience with this is a definite plus.
  • PLC knowledge to support the Electrocoat Operation and the supporting systems.
  • Lead all daily weekend and shutdown maintenance planning with input from your team(s)
  • Integrate the maintenance plan into total department business plan
  • Maximize equipment effectiveness through a detailed standardized and prioritized preventive and predictive maintenance plan designed to improve productivity
  • Provide resources support and priorities for all maintenance actions; Use Maximo (MFM) to document all maintenance activities (planned and crisis) and create reports to support continuous improvement
  • Use Maximo to analyze data and evaluate the effectiveness of the preventive maintenance plan
  • Jointly coordinate maintenance and engineering activities

Daily

• Check-in Crew: Daily start-up (safety talk quality topic job assignments PTA & JSA)
• Complete daily safety walk(GRASP) and review 3382s & MEWP cards
• Review prior shift report for action items
• Review Maximo work order status close file as necessary.
• Tour Ecoat and review startup status and PPG report. Assign follow up.
• Field all incoming calls for production & building support and react
• Review OHSIM for open items
• Generate daily shift report and capture all significant details sharing with Dept.
• Complete payroll for assigned DROTS
• Check and reply to email promptly
• Check ATS for call ins and lates- Respond to HR for outcome of open items promptly (Lates AWOL etc.
• Follow-up on completion of daily Skilled Trade job assignments
• Meet with management to review man power planning for the nights business
• Communicate status of down equipment repairs to affected departments
• Provide hard copy documentation for fixed & mobile rack repair binders

Weekly/Bi-Weekly

• Support Outside Contractors as needed with Skilled Trades
• Work with Vendors on projects parts ordering and efficient operations
• Verify completion of weekly yard inventory report every Monday (2nd shift)
• Review/Update vacation schedule with any cancellations/additions
• Participate in weekend review for manpower job/project planning JSA-PTA discussion
• Review H129 and H121 reports for accuracy
• Complete safety training requirements (ECPL Arc Flash MEWP Combustion Safety RCRA)
• Complete weekly safety talk and safety initiatives

Monthly

• Participate in Staff meetings
• Review monthly fixed & mobile rack repairs
• Handle any open grievances
• Complete month end Maximo PMs

As Required

• Must be work daily/weekly overtime as needed.
• Must be able to cover all shifts as needed.
• Schedule employees for MSS exams.
• Track attendance 8 after the fact codes.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: High School Diploma
• Experience: 3-5 years technical work experience and troubleshooting in a Manufacturing environment
• Microsoft Office knowledge (Word/Excel/Outlook)
• Fundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls
• The current shift is Afternoon 1pm 9:30pm
• Ability to work any shift as well as rotating shifts and weekends along with associated overtime. This is a MUST.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Capable of assigning work to unionized hourly employees and hold these employees accountable for following processes pertaining to daily work assignments in terms of safety quality and throughput
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
• Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership in One FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal teambuilding and communication skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Education: Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience: 3-5 years automotive experience
• Paint shop and/or E-coat maintenance experience preferred
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
• Knowledge of constraint management principles
• Safety and Quality experience preferred
• Prior experience managing a unionized work force
