Summer is coming! Internship Applications are now Open!

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geotechnical or Civil Engineering looking to gain practical experience in your field of study We have the perfect opportunity for you to join the Waihi North Project team Engineers at OceanaGold.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid to late November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant).

What will you be doing

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

  • Geotechnical - Early works include field-based investigations particularly geotechnical drilling with specialist contractors supporting the programs through down hole logging and equipment installations.
  • Civil - Early works include the development of the 5km services trench design reviews and establishment of the areas in preparation for bulk earthworks including access to the new underground portal and waste rock stack.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Waihi North Project active infrastructure and site development projects. Under the guidance of experienced engineers the intern will assist with field investigations data collection laboratory testing and construction monitoring as well as contribute to technical reporting and project documentation. This role offers hands-on experience in both field and office settings exposure to practical engineering applications and the opportunity to develop professional skills in a collaborative safety focused environment.

Qualifications :

What do I need to join the Intern program

  • In your 4th or final year of study (Geotechnical or Civil Engineering).
  • Have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas.
  • Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field.
  • Effective communication interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Full Drivers License and the ability to drive a manual vehicle preferred.
  • Availability to participate from mid-late November through to mid-February (2025-2026).
