Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geotechnical Engineering (preferably Hard Rock) looking to gain practical experience in your field of study We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Geotechnical Engineering team at OceanaGold Waihi operation.
This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid to late November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant).
What will you be doing
- Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
- Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
- Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship showcasing your growth and achievements.
Specific project work will involve:
- Assisting with development of historic fill hazard map and void treatment database development.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Working amongst our underground crews and engineering team gaining experience in underground geotechnical engineering based at Waihi underground mine.

What do I need to join the Intern program
- In your 3rd or final year of study (Geotechnical Engineering preferably Hard Rock).
- Have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas.
- Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field.
- Effective communication interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Full Drivers License and the ability to drive a manual vehicle preferred.
- Availability to participate from mid-late November through to mid-February (2025-2026).
