School Summary

Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public private and non-profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge skills and networks to design policies implement programs and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world. We offer Masters degrees in International Development Human Rights International Studies Global Economic Affairs International Security Global Environmental Sustainability and Public Policy. We also offer graduate certificate programs in Public Policy Humanitarian Assistance Global Business and Corporate Social Responsibility Homeland Security Global Environmental Change and Adaptation Global Social Justice and Religion and International Affairs. Our joint or dual degree/certificate programs are with the Sturm College of Law Daniels College of Business the Graduate School of Social Work and the Departments of Religion as well as Media Film and Journalism Studies. At the undergraduate level we offer International Studies and Public Policy majors and minors.

The University of Denver is situated in the Denver metro area a vibrant and diverse urban center in the Rocky Mountain region that is home to 2.8 million people. Our urban location supports faculty collaboration across a number of local universities. The University ranked in the top 100 universities in the country is comprised of approximately 5800 undergraduates 5700 graduate students and over 700 full-time faculty.

Position Summary

Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver seeks to hire adjunct faculty from an applicant pool for the academic year of 2025/26. Adjunct faculty teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. Instructors may be engaged to teach courses in the degrees of Global Economic Affairs Global Environmental Sustainability Human Rights International Development International Security International Studies and Public Policy. We may also be seeking instructors for our certificates in Global Environmental Change and Adaptation Global Business and Corporate Social Responsibility Homeland Security Humanitarian Assistance Religion and International Affairs and Global Social Justice.

Essential Functions

Job requirements for undergraduate classes typically include teaching a 10-week course on campus in two sessions of 110 minutes each per week holding weekly office hours (either on campus or virtually via Zoom or Teams videoconferencing) assigning and evaluating papers and exams as appropriate and being available to assist students with course requirements. Job requirements for graduate classes typically include teaching a 10-week course on campus in one session of 170 minutes each per week holding weekly office hours (either on campus or via Zoom or Teams videoconferencing) assigning and evaluating papers and exams as appropriate and being available to assist students with course requirements. There is the possibility of alternate scheduling arrangements (shorter courses alternative time structures etc.) but they are specific and less frequent.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree or ABD in a relevant field.
  • Professional roles that indicate the core skills associated with teaching the material in the instructors area of expertise to an undergraduate- and/or graduate-level audience.
  • Evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods to engage diverse student populations effectively.
  • Experience or willingness to learn course management software for teaching online or conventional classes (e.g. Canvas) especially features including assignment submission discussion boards quizzes announcements files and the gradebook.
  • Availability to teach classes face-to-face in physical classrooms at the University of Denver.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Previous experience teaching a university-level course as the primary instructor.
  • Experience interacting with and effectively teaching diverse communities of students.
  • Experience using Zoom and/or Teams videoconferencing and the following features of the Canvas course management system: assignment submission discussion boards quizzes announcements files and the gradebook.

Course Rate

The course rate ranges from $5508 to $7605 depending on qualifications and experience.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
