This is a full-time position based at the State Secondary Complex near Dimondale Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking applicants for a full-time equipment technician. You will work in both field and office settings to install and maintain traffic monitoring equipment that helps MDOT design better roads!

This position will be trained to troubleshoot equipment software and data collection-related issues. If you are flexible and embrace challenges that may come your way come work for us.

This position is responsible for supporting MDOTs permanent traffic monitoring program through the data collection of traffic or travel information as required by the Federal Highway a learning capacity this position offers a combination of field and office work. The field work primarily consists of day trips to traffic monitoring sites across Michigan to install maintain diagnose repair and calibrate traffic monitoring equipment. Various maintenance monitoring support and research activities are performed out of the home office location at the State Secondary Complex.

The employee sometimes works alone with minimal supervision in the field. The employee will develop the skills needed to use independent judgement to maintain manage and develop aspects of specific program areas that they may be assigned.

General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position

Diagnose repair maintain modify test fabricate and program equipment used in the acquisition of highway traffic data (traffic volumes vehicle speeds vehicle classifications and vehicle weights). Provide assistance in daily computer operations within the Lansing shop. Assist in the installation and maintenance of field-permanent traffic recorder stations including site preparation such as loop installation and repair pedestal and cabinet installation cellular communications equipment and power drops and loop lead-in cables. Assist during the annual calibration of weigh-in-motion sites as well as provide support with Welcome Center monitoring equipment. Operate a motor vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26001 pounds or more to transport equipment to job sites and in performance of weigh-in-motion site calibrations. CDL training will be provided if needed.

The Salary listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry(8)level through the maximum rate at the experienced(E10)level. Based on education and experience candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of an associates degree in electrical electromechanical electronics engineering or electronics technology.

Experience

Equipment Technician 8
No specific type or amount is required.

Equipment Technician 9
One year of experience in the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician 8.

Equipment Technician E10
Two years of experience in the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician including one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician 9.

Alternate Education and Experience

Four years of experience in the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment may be substituted for the education requirement. This is in addition to the experience requirements for the specific levels.

A certificate from a two year post-secondary technical program in electrical electromechanical or electronics technology may be substituted for the education requirement.

Possession of a bachelors degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work qualifies for the Equipment Technician 10 level.
