Peer Support Specialist

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00a - 4:30p

Pay Range: $22-$24 /hour

Community Medical Services (CMS) is hiring a substance abuse Peer Support Specialist to assist patients recovering from addictions to opioids and other illicit substances. You will use your personal recovery experience to provide ongoing guidance coaching and support to individuals seekingor in activerecovery with us.

As a Peer Support Specialist you will use your own lived experience in recovery to build trust inspire hope and support others on their recovery journey. Youll walk alongsidenot ahead ofthose you serve offering encouragement advocacy and connection to resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and group peer support built on empathy and trust.
• Share your recovery story in a way that fosters connection and hope.
• Support participants in identifying and achieving recovery goals.
• Connect people with resources and recovery supports.
• Model healthy coping resilience and self-advocacy.
• Collaborate with the care team to promote whole-person wellness.
• Maintain professional boundaries confidentiality and ethics.

To thrive in this role you must be able to:

• Assist clients in identifying effective coping techniques self-help strategies and increasing social support networks.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards.
• Draw from prior behavioral health experience either as a recipient of services a family member of someone receiving services or a primary caregiver of a service recipient.
• Provide clinical support including assessments to special populations and projects.
• Promote harm reduction and recovery in group settings.
• Travel (with reimbursement) up to 25% of the time to various CMS clinic locations and community events.
• Communicate CMS program and assessment information to community-based service providers.

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Personal lived experience in recovery from substance use mental health or traumaand commitment to ongoing wellness.
• Eligible for state Peer Support Certification (or currently certified).
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Preferred:

• Previous experience in peer support or advocacy.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction.
• Bilingual or lived experience representing underrepresented communities.
