Job Description

Full Time Case Manager at Herring Cove Apartments

At Shelter Nova Scotia we provide places to stay and services to promote stability for marginalized individuals. You will contribute to a community without judgement with spaces and places for people to belong.
About the Facility
Herring Cove Apartments is a supported living environment for individuals who identify as male and are experiencing long term Alcohol Use Disorder and have a history of homelessness. We provide supported affordable housing to up to 12 people in the form of shared apartments enabling our tenants to create a sense of community.

Requirements
Successful candidate must have post-secondary experience
Favourable Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check will be required
Must have Standard First Aid/CPR Level C or be willing to acquire within the first 6 months of employment.
Hours of Work
72 to 96 hours biweekly. Working 12-hour shifts on a scheduled rotation including days nights and weekends. Salary will be averaged to 84 hours biweekly. This is an awake position staff are required to stay awake alert and vigilant at all times while on duty.
Salary
$24.35 per hour (as per Collective Agreement)

Requirements

Strong knowledge of the policies procedures structure mission and mandate of Shelter Nova Scotia
Able to adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality code of conduct policies and procedures
Ability to remain awake alert and vigilant at all times while on duty
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent attention to details and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications including: Internet Explorer Word Excel Outlook
Child Abuse Registry check and/or Government of Canada Personnel Screening may be required depending on the facility where you will be working.
Interviewing counseling and intervention techniques
Knowledge of community programs and services serving individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
Knowledge of the structure and organization of the Department of Community Services and applicable legislation and policies (Employment Support and Income assistance)
Ability to understand cultural differences
Ability to understand the dynamics of clients behavior and assess their needs and risks
Ability to accurately and professionally document and maintain client notes using the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) database
Knowledge ofthe Housing First Approach
Perform First Aid and/or CPR when required
Perform personal care as required

Responsibilities

Maintain professional ethical boundaries at all times
Maintain positive working relations with government and community agencies
Represent Shelter Nova Scotia in the community in an appropriate and responsible manner
Adhere to Health Fire and other standards as required by applicable legislations
Maintain the rights and security of the tenants staff and community
Not disclose information contained within documentation with any tenant or unauthorized individual
Not establish solitary confidentiality with the tenants
Maintain the daily operations of the facility
Receive and direct the proper storage of deliveries
Ensure that the facility and grounds are maintained at an acceptable level of cleanliness and report required repair as recognized.
Daily cleaning and minor maintaining of facility bedding setup laundry garbage removal and recycling assist tenants with unit cleaning
Maintain accurate and up to date HIFIS database according to guidelines provided
Activate and de-activate the alarm as required
Conduct appropriate Facility Checks and confirm count as per Shelter Nova Scotia policy
Participate in safety calls procedures as instructed by Shelter Nova Scotia policy
Maintain an accurate filing system
Complete detailed shift briefings (to include updates on all tenants and facility activities) as required by Shelter Nova Scotia policies
Enter notes into HIFIS
Assist with meal preparation as required
Conduct wake ups as required
Assist with medication as per policies of Shelter Nova Scotia
Maintain required documentation on individual tenants
Attend all staff meetings
Contact and follow direction of the Shelter Nova Scotia on-call personnel as required
Follow direction and perform other duties as required or deemed necessary by the House Manager or Director of Housing
Participate in the On Call Rotation as required
Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act
Complete move ins as necessary
Complete full SPDATs with incoming tenants upload or paste to HIFIS and submit any reports as specified
Assist tenant with the development of daily life skills and provision of overall program information
Ensure Confidentiality is respected at all times and particularly in relation to program participants
Facilitate skills building with tenants
Develop new and strengthen existing relationships with partnering organizations that offer employment and support tenants as appropriate.
Develop and monitor case plans with tenants
Manage crisis situations that may arise within the facility


Hours of Work
