Job Description

eCornell delivers online professional certificate programs to individuals and organizations around the world. Certificates are designed and developed as a collaborative effort between Cornell University faculty and eCornells professional instructional design and development teams.

eCornell offers more than 120 Certificates in a wide range of topics including leadership and management data science engineering marketing technology human resources healthcare hospitality and more. New programs are being launched constantly. Short courses (2 to 4 weeks) with small cohorts are designed to be interactive and to help learners gain skills they can immediately apply in their organizations.

As a credible expert with applied experience in the associated fields the eCornell Course Facilitator plays a key role in delivering the value of the eCornell courses. Along with content from Cornell University faculty high-production value courses the Course Facilitators round out the complete learning experience for students.

We are seeking additional facilitators to support our Introductory Beekeeping course.

Hired eCornell Course Facilitators will:

  • Be classified as part-time casual employees with Cornell University
  • Be provided with extensive onboarding support prior to being assigned courses.
  • Share their applied experience in the field with working adults from around the world.
  • Encourage sharing of reflection and information by students using online platforms.
  • Assess and provide relevant feedback for students on assignments.
  • Collaborate with appropriate eCornell staff to contribute to continuous improvement and student engagement as needed.

Facilitator Duties and Responsibilities

Before each course

  • Effectively prepares for each session of instruction and demonstrates proficiency with all relevant software course content and materials.
  • Sets up schedule (quiz and assignment deadlines) and automated announcements prior to the start of class.

During each course

  • Checks in with the class every day and instructs the class for the entire scheduled period. Maintains regular and predictable attendance within course rooms.
  • Effectively communicates by email and Canvas inbox with students instructors Program Leadership and/or other eCornell personnel as needed. Responds to student emails about course content and special accommodations.
  • Moderates course discussion and answers students questions in accordance with the material from the curriculum. Provides students with feedback in a constructive and positive manner highlighting both strengths and areas in need of improvement.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive student-centered learning environment byexemplifying proper online decorum and integrity and requiring the same of students. Creates a learning environment where students are valued and encouraged to learn.
  • Proactively monitors students achievement and actively outreaches to at-risk students to ensure course persistence as well as program retention.
  • Monitors and evaluates the students work against stated learning outcomes and works with students so that a full achievement level is attained.
  • Grades posts and returns all assignments in a timely manner.
  • Remains responsive to student needs and student requests for support.

Additional tasks

  • Demonstrates ability to consistently meet key performance indicators related tostudent outreach engagement and documentation.
  • Provides feedback and refinement recommendations to Program Leadership regarding curriculum resources and support services based upon expertise in subject area current industry trends and student performance and engagement indicators.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings and assists Program Leadership asneeded.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed the Cornell University Master Beekeeping Program and received a grade of 80% or higher on the field oral and written exams
  • At least five years of beekeeping experience
  • Extensive knowledge of honey bees and beekeeping
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain an open non-judgmental attitude toward students diverse beekeeping perspectives and philosophies
  • Supports a learner-centered service approach for adult learners
  • Ability to locate reputable science-based information when unsure of the response to students questions
  • Thinks and works independently and as a part of a team to solve complex problems and remove barriers to success for groups and/or individuals
  • Exercises critical thinking problem solving and conflict resolution skills with/for students
  • Strong work ethic
  • Prioritizes and organizes high volumes of work ensuring attention to detail and accuracy within the required timeframe
  • Maintains a measured response to rapid change and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Additionally preferred qualifications include:

  • Instructional experience.
  • Beekeeping experience in the Northeast US.

  • There is no VISA sponsorship or relocation assistance available for these positions and facilitators need to be current U.S. residents.
  • These positions are remote which means you can be located anywhere within the U.S.
  • The eCornell Course Facilitators are casual non-benefits eligible positions.
  • The positions are exempt positions and are thus not available as an additional appointment for current Cornell University non-exempt employees.
