Summary:
The Lactation Consultant is an RN responsible for the assessment planning implementing and management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. She is a coach consultant teacher and lactation expert. As a specialist they work collaboratively to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from normal newborn to the complex neonate. They will make clinical assessments and use current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physician and family breastfeeding goals.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- NICU nursing experience.
- Lactation Consultant will have a minimum of 10 continuing education hours/year of lactation focused education.
Certification/Licensure:
- Current Texas RN License.
- IBCLC (International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants) Certified Breastfeeding Educator or Certified Breastfeeding Counselor.
- BLS Certification.
