Job Description

Plant Attendant/Operator I - Wastewater

The City of Wilmington is seeking a full-time Attendant/Operator for the Wastewater Department. Under the supervision of the Chief Operator the Attendant/Operator maintains the wastewater treatment facility including plant grounds and related pump station; conducts laboratory analysis; ensures chemical levels are monitored and maintained; performs inspections; and maintains records reports and suppliesin accordance with the City of Wilmington Ordinances Personnel Policies OSHA safety laws and any other State and Federal authority.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
  • Maintains records and prepares reports and monthly billing of septic receiving vehicle and building fuel costs
  • Assists Chief Operator (Pretreatment Coordinator) with setting of samplers flow meters and other devices used to monitor influent and effluent flows to and from the plant
  • Enters data in OP-10 Lab Bench Sheets and other EPA required documents and creates new forms as needed by other employees and for daily job activities
  • Process control and lab analysis for plant and N.P.D.E.S. permit
  • Operates and regulates pumps valves and other essential equipment
  • Helps in maintaining plant structures and surrounding grounds; shovels and pushes snow; mows grass as needed.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to plan equipment as needed; helps maintenance personnel with major repairs to tanks motors pumps lift stations vehicles and all other major repairs; cleans and washes trucks.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed; attends training and seminars as directed
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required. A combination of education experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities may also be considered.
  • Must hold a valid State of Ohio drivers license and maintain insurability under the Citys vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Operators License within two (2) years of hire.

COMPENSATION:
Pay is in accordance with the Citys approved pay plan and depends on licensure status.
  • Unlicensed candidates (Plant Attendant): Starting pay is $20.04 per hour
  • Licensed candidates (Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Operator): Starting pay is $23.20 per hour.

The deadline to submit an application is Thursday September 25 2025 at 4:00 PM.

The written test will take place on Wednesday October 1 2025 at 5:30 PM in the Community Room of the Municipal Building located at 69 N. South Street Wilmington Ohio.

A score of 70% or greater is required for an interview.
