Caterpillar is seeking a highly experienced and visionarySenior HMI UX Leadto spearhead the design and development of advanced human-machine interfaces for solar industrial display systems. This role is pivotal in shaping intuitive robust and standards-compliant user experiences for heavy machinery and energy systems with a strong focus on industrial usability safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic UX Leadership

  • Define and lead the UX strategy for solar industrial HMI applications ensuring alignment with Caterpillars product vision and operational goals.
  • Champion user-centered design principles across engineering product and business teams.
  • Drive innovation in industrial UX balancing usability durability and compliance.

Design & Development

  • Create wireframes interaction flows and high-fidelity UI designs tailored for rugged industrial environments.
  • Develop scalable design systems for embedded displays and control panels.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for sunlight readability glove-friendly interaction ergonomics and environmental resilience.

Compliance & Standards

  • Integrate ISO standards (e.g. ISO 9241 ISO 26262 ISO 13849) into UX design and documentation processes.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and safety teams to ensure HMI designs meet global compliance requirements.
  • Maintain traceability and documentation for audits and certifications.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with hardware software and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of UX into embedded platforms.
  • Partner with product managers and field experts to gather insights from real-world usage scenarios.
  • Facilitate design reviews and workshops with internal and external stakeholders.

User Research & Validation

  • Conduct usability testing in lab and field environments.
  • Analyze user feedback and operational data to drive iterative improvements.
  • Apply design thinking and ergonomic principles to solve complex interaction challenges.

Team Building

  • Mentor junior designers and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Promote best practices in industrial UX accessibility and inclusive design.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:10 years in UX/UI design with 5 years in HMI or industrial UX leadership roles.
  • Education:Bachelors or Masters in HCI Interaction Design Industrial Design or related field.
  • Tools:Proficiency in Figma Adobe XD Sketch and prototyping tools; familiarity with embedded UI frameworks is a plus.
  • Skills:Strong understanding of multimodal interaction design information architecture and design systems for industrial applications.
  • Compliance:Working knowledge of ISO standards relevant to HMI and safety-critical systems.
  • Portfolio:Demonstrated success in delivering UX for industrial or energy systems.
  • Soft Skills:Excellent communication stakeholder engagement and presentation skills.
