Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Memphis Inc. has an opening for a Melt Shop Day mechanic. The responsibility of the Day Mechanic will include the continuous improvement of the Safety Culture Predictive and Preventive Maintenance systems Project Coordination and Team Development with an emphasis on projects that will impact the safety and efficiency of the department. The teammates selected will be expected to lead motivate develop and assist the team; manage large projects from start to completion; communicate well with both production and maintenance departments; and wisely manage contractors and costs. The teammates selected for this position will be expected to work Monday through Friday but to include weekends and or holidays if necessary. The teammates will be required to fill in on shift if needed by the needs of the Mill.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • 6 years of industrial maintenance experience; strong hydraulic pneumatic mechanical electrical and PLC skills.
  • Previous experience leading projects continuous improvement initiatives or supervising small maintenance team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly across shifts and departments. Able to coach mentor and support other maintenance team members effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles equipment and maintenance techniques supported by a two-year technical degree or equivalent technical training and experience
  • Skilled in reviewing prioritizing creating and closing work orders and maintenance. Able to allocate resources effectively across shifts and planned maintenance periods.

Proven Leadership.

Working knowledge and understanding of Melt shop process and compressors and Hydraulic equipment.
