Job Description

Overview

M&J Engineering P.C. is a quality provider of multi-discipline consulting services with over 300 employees. Since its inception in 2004 M&J has grown into diversified provider of engineering construction management construction inspection technology and environmental services to a broad range of clients including federal state and city/local agencies private owners architects engineers and contractors.

M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection ITS mechanical electrical wastewater water supply tunnel airport port marine/coastal environmental engineering and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations.

The Assistant Vice President oversees and directs construction management and civil engineering design teams at M&J. This leadership role ensures timely project completion adherence to design requirements and alignment with company standards. The position reports to the Senior Vice President or designated supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and generate business with major state agencies and municipalities in Massachusetts (e.g. MassDOT MBTA Massport MWRA City of Boston City of Cambridge).
  • Lead and support engineering teams fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Manage all future work in Massachusetts including budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Allocate resources to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and conduct regular audits.
  • Communicate planning objectives and results to senior management.
  • Conduct market research and identify growth opportunities.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and lead initiatives to expand market share.
  • Oversee recruitment daily workflow and project plan approvals.
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget and efficiently.
  • Establish and implement strategic direction for engineering and development.
  • Align departmental actions with M&Js business plan and vision.
  • Implement engineering policies standards and security measures.
  • Negotiate contracts and coordinate contractor work.
  • Mentor mid-level directors and managers across engineering and operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree inCivil Engineeringor a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensein Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in engineering management or project leadership and 20 years of experience in the civil engineering/construction management industry.
  • Proven experience working with Massachusetts agencies such as MassDOT MBTA or Massport.
  • Strong leadership communication and strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets teams and complex projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Engineering Business Administration or related discipline.
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management.
  • Familiarity with City of Boston and City of Cambridge procurement processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineering professionals and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation and infrastructure regulations.

Salary range $200000 to $225000 depending on education qualifications and experience
