What Youll Do
The Production Specialist assists the Production Support Manager in the technical execution and integration of daily production work activities. Directly supports front line supervisors and production managers in work planning scheduling and integration of activities that impact field execution and production readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of production and maintenance schedules
- Monitors tracks coordinates and resolves issues related to production schedules facility condition equipment/tooling availability and procurement of supplies services or equipment/components needed in support of production or maintenance activities
- Serve as a relief supervisor as requested supporting shift and pre-job briefings developing and monitoring operating and procedural practices and ensures documentation required by those practices is completed in an accurate and timely manner
- Identify and implement Lean/5S and Productivity improvements to processes and operations practices and provides floor leadership in the implementation of approved initiatives
- Support Production Operations management in liaison with bargaining unit employees overtime management training status staffing actions and other personnel activities as requested
- Receive catalog and develop manufacturing plans for work requests in fabrication; interacts with customers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries of components
- Perform other duties as assigned to provide leadership in maintaining safe working conditions proactively preventing injuries contaminations and exposures and supporting the safe efficient and effective flow of work within the production area
- Working shift work / overtime may be required to support project schedules
Accountabilities:
- To the UPF Production Manager for ensuring production processes schedule performance against project milestones
- To the Y-12 Commissioning Manager for the effective interface and integration of UPF with existing Y-12 production facilities
- To the UPF workforce for ensuring successful training readiness planning/practice and production startup
Authorities include:
- Authorized to manage the production craft workers to support mission deliverables when assigned as a relief supervisor or Production Support Manager
- Authorized to represent Production Support Manager or line supervisors at plan of day meeting
- Authorized to represent the Production Division in interactions with labor relations personnel and in interactions with personnel concerning product schedule cost or quality
- Authorized to represent workers in development of procedures and operating protocols that directly affect the work conditions and job performance

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
- OR Masters degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- OR PhD
- In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major and 4 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements
- Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years
- Relevant experience in production operations environment and interfaces with production and maintenance personnel is desired
- Working knowledge of related production and facility support equipment and maintenance processes are preferred
- A general understanding of the bargaining unit contract is desired
- Demonstrated understanding of Issues Management System and development of effective corrective action plans are desired
- Requires strong technical organizational and communication skills
- A commitment to continuous process improvement and lean/7S concepts is required
- Demonstrated understanding of Conduct of Operations and Integrated Safety Management System principles and requirements is required

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
