SUMMARY

The URM (Unaccompanied Refugee Minor) Case Aide provides support services that help URM foster children placed in LFSRM (Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains) foster homes adjust to life in the United States. The URM Case Aide helps clients meet immediate and ongoing needs and works with the youths team in implementing treatment plans in adherence with federal state and county guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as an advocate and resource for clients and provides equal treatment to all client groups in accordance with the agencys commitment to the dignity of all persons.
  • Supports the Caseworkers in providing or setting up comprehensive services for clients to include but not limited to: therapeutic health educational cross- cultural and other pertinent resources for each case. Helps implement the treatment plans with all relevant parties.
  • Complies with all legal and court related requirements related to foster care programs role with each case. Maintains contact with URM Caseworker in designing and supporting permanency goals.
  • Maintains frequent contact with foster parents and URM youth in order to provide support and education when needed.
  • Drives or arranges for transportation for clients to appointments when appropriate.
  • Obtains the services of an interpreter whenever necessary to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate delivery of services.
  • Maintains written case records provides data and prepares necessary reports timely and accurately.
  • Consults and coordinates with other service providers in a collaborative case planning approach.
  • Participates in LFSRM and other team meetings regarding assigned or prospective cases as requested.
  • Becomes and remains familiar with state rule governing foster parent licensure.
  • Participates in foster parent support activities as requested.
  • Participates in community outreach activities that advance the work and message of the URM program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Knowledgeable in social work practice human development child welfare system and/or cross cultural sensitivity; experience preferred.
  • Skills and sensitivity in working with children and families from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds with a variety of challenges some of whom will be limited English speakers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Skills in crisis management problem solving and mediation.
  • Detail oriented extensive documentation skills organized and able to work in a multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to self-start and work well in a team setting.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word use of emails and the completion of computer-based forms.
  • Possesses a valid Colorado drivers license; has a reliable and consistently available vehicle; and is able to regularly travel throughout the agencys service area by way of interstate highways and primary and secondary roads including those passing through the mountainous terrain within the state and region. Must carry automobile liability insurance at the level of 100000/300000/100000.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates degree or two years of college; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
