Overview

Emergency Department Technician

FTE: 0.6 FTE (Part-time 24 hours per week)

Works closely with RNs Physicians EMS other health team members patients and familes to support the work in the Emergency Department. Ensures the department is adequately stocked and cleaned in support of ideal quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Completes care for adult and geriatric patients as assigned by the registered nurse.
    • Assists the Registered Nurse with the Admission assessment by obtaining height and
    • Attends to patients daily hygiene including oral care hair care baths peri care application of glasses dentures and hearing aids.
    • Assists patients with meals when indicated.
    • Passes meals nourishments water and assists patients as need indicates.
    • Records intake and output accurately.
    • Acknowledges and meets patients needs regarding movement and elimination.
    • Assists patients with activities in a safe manner as directed by the nurse.
  • Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
  • Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities performance improvement activities and other related activities.
  • Completes environmental tasks as assigned.
  • Obtains electrocardiograms per physician orders.
  • Assists RN to establish EKG telemetry noninvasive blood pressure and oximetry and temperature readings.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.
    • Labels chart pages with patient identification.
    • Assembles chart pages in approved sequence and chart order identified.
    • Maintains orderly storage of supplies.
    • Documents diet consumption within the online medical record.
  • Demonstrates positive customer relation skills.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Documents ADLs within the online medical record.
  • Performs Glucose Point of Care.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Seventy-five (75) Hour Nursing Assistant Course or nursing students to have completed Nursing Foundations preferred.

Licensure:

  • Certificate from an approved Nursing Assistant Course is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment.
  • BCLS completion required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients.
  • Member of the Support stroke team requiring 2 hours of annual stroke education.
