RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will participate in the full range of video assignments. Employee utilizes considerable judgement in making decisions requiring the interpretation and application of numerous mediums to complete tasks.
- Content Creation and Storytelling:
- Documenting the Experience: A primary responsibility is to film and document the various aspects of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and its programs especially Space Camp. This includes capturing the authentic experiences of attendees from team-based challenges and simulations to guest speakers and graduation ceremonies.
- Promotional and Marketing Videos: Create high-quality video content for marketing purposes including commercials social media campaigns and website content. These videos should highlight the centers mission exhibits and programs to attract visitors and future campers.
- Educational and Informational Videos: Produce videos that inform and educate the public about space history STEM concepts and the centers mission. This could include short documentaries on specific artifacts interviews with experts or instructional videos for visitors.
- Production and Technical Skills:
- Filming and Cinematography: Operate a variety of professional video equipment including cameras lenses microphones and lighting. This requires a strong understanding of manual camera settings for different environments such as low-light interiors of the museum and action-packed outdoor activities.
- Pre-Production Planning: Collaborate with other creative team members as well as marketing and other teams to conceptualize and plan video projects. This involves developing scripts storyboards and shot lists to ensure a cohesive and effective final product.
- Editing and Post-Production: Edit raw footage to create a polished final product. This includes trimming clips adding music sound effects graphics and special effects. Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is essential.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot all video and audio equipment. This includes cleaning organizing and performing minor repairs to ensure all gear is in excellent working order.
- Collaboration and Logistics:
- Working with Teams: Collaborate effectively with a variety of internal teams including marketing public relations and educational program staff to fulfill video requests and ensure content aligns with the centers brand and messaging.
- Talent and Guest Management: Comfortably work with and direct people on camera including staff camp attendees and VIP guests. This requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make individuals feel at ease.
- Adhering to Policies: Be knowledgeable about and follow all center policies including media release protocols for individuals appearing in videos.
- Organization and Archiving:
- Asset Management: Implement and maintain a clear system for organizing and archiving all video footage project files and final products. This ensures that assets are easily accessible for future use and reference.
- Reporting: Maintain records and prepare reports related to video projects including project progress deadlines and metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Radio/TV Film Fine Arts or related area preferred
- 12 months experience operating video cameras and editing equipment OR five years experience operating video cameras and editing equipment required or any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Computer Experience: Must be able to use a 101 key keyboard and possess knowledge of Windows based operating systems; including some basic associated software applications (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet).
Physical & Work Requirements
This position has the following special requirements:
- Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings
- Sitting for long periods of time (4-6 hours) operating video equipment
- Carrying and lifting supplies and boxes up to 40 lbs. waist high
- Bending kneeling reaching to store & retrieve supplies and equipment
- Sight reading wrist movements feeling to operate equipment etc.
- Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisor(s) employees guests and trainees who interact with assigned area of responsibility
- Dress for the weather informed as to the logistics of a particular shoot.
