Job Description:

The Program Manager for Clinical Placement is responsible for overseeing the coordination and execution of clinical education experiences for medical students. This role involves working with Clinical Departments to maintain partnerships with clinical sites ensuring that placements align with curriculum requirements and accreditation standards and ensuring adequate capacity for the COMLS clinical education curriculum. Responsibilities include maintaining clinical site relationships securing placements communicating site requirements and managing compliance documentation for COMLS students at ProMedica UTMC and all other affiliate sites. The Program Manager may request and secure clinical site placements in collaboration with Clerkship Directors Clerkship Coordinators and Associate Deans for Undergraduate Clinical Education and Undergraduate Medical Education.

This position supports the implementation of the clinical education component of the undergraduate curricula in the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with new clinical sites and preceptors communicating site requirements for student placement and securing affiliation agreements. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accreditation data of clinical sites and tracking clinical sites and preceptors. Additionally they evaluate site effectiveness and recommend improvements to improve site utilization. Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills are essential to maintain strong relationships with clinical partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate across multiple constituencies including academic faculty administrators and practice partners.
  • Must be independent and driven with a demonstrated ability to assume initiative and be selfdirected.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain data management systems and processes.
  • Must possess excellent writing skills.

Education/experience/licensing

  • Possess a minimum of a bachelors degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in undergraduate medical education.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of LCME and related undergraduate medical education regulations and requirements.
  • Possess the ability to prioritize exercise strong analytical skills use effective communication and possess superior problemsolving skills. The individual must have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with faculty clerkship directors and clerkship coordinators.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred experience in academic medicine knowledge of clerkship programs and undergraduate medical education issues.
Knowledge of and familiarity with learning management systems (i.e. Blackboard OASIS)
Experience with comprehensive evaluation systems
Working knowledge of the American Association of Medical Colleges Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program.
