This position is responsible for detection investigation and enforcement activities relating to fraudulent and non-fraudulent violations of the North Carolina Securities Investment Advisers Uniform Athlete Agents and Commodities Acts (N.C.G.S. Chapters 78A 78C & 78D). This position will handle a wide variety of case investigations which have been initiated by the enforcement staff or identified and referred to the North Carolina Securities Division by law enforcement agencies securities regulatory agencies and the public. Duties typically involve complex large-scale investigations requiring an ability to conduct financial analysis investigate cyber financial crimes and evaluate specialized transactional records as well as voluminous data sets of electronic records and social media accounts. This position also has responsibilities to conduct criminal and administrative investigations of violations of the North Carolina Corporations Act the Charitable Solicitations Act and the Lobbying Act as well as any other statute the Secretary has authority to regulate.
This is an advanced-level investigative position responsible for conducting and participating in a wide range of complex criminal and administrative investigations. The role requires the ability to evaluate diverse and identifiable factors exercising sound judgement in selecting investigative methods and techniques to determine appropriate actions. The position operates with a high degree of independence receiving minimal supervision in the execution of daily tasks new assignments or special projects. This position serves in a mentorship capacity providing guidance and support to less experienced investigative staff.
Position will also determine jurisdictional basis conduct interviews of witnesses and suspects collect documentary evidence draft detailed reports of investigation and participate in administrative civil and criminal enforcement proceedings. Position will also draft complex subpoenas and search warrants. Occasional overnight travel will be required. This position may serve as a back up to the Special Agent-in-Charge Terminal Agency Coordinator for DCI or other duties as assigned.

Bachelor s degree in accounting finance business administration or criminal justice from an appropriately accredited institution with eighteen credit hours of accounting coursework and four years of experience in auditing and/or investigating tax financial or securities crimes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements (if applicable) may require certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or Special Agent in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
