About the opportunity

The Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technology Adviser plays a vital role in supporting students with disability by providing expertise in assistive technology solutions that enhance access participation and success in higher education. This position is responsible for assessing student needs recommending appropriate technological tools and providing training and ongoing support; as well as collaborating with academic and professional staff to create an inclusive learning and teaching environment. The role contributes directly to the Universitys commitment to universal design for learning equity and inclusion ensuring that students with disability have equal access to educational opportunities through innovative technological approaches. The Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technology Adviser will lead initiatives to evaluate implement and maintain a diverse range of assistive technologies while staying current with emerging solutions and best practices in the field.

What youll do:

  • Assess individual student needs and recommend appropriate assistive technology solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging assistive technologies and accessibility innovations through professional development networking and research.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and resources for university staff on creating accessible digital content and understanding assistive technology requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of university-wide digital accessibility policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Accessibility Services team and the wider Student Equity and Success Portfolio.

What were looking for:

  • Extensive practical knowledge of assistive technologies.
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and their practical application in higher education.
  • Extensive experience providing effective training and support to students with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Significant experience in supporting student learning development in a range of face-to face and online environments with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Understanding of universal design principles and their application to educational environments.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130943 comprising base salary within the range of $101821 to $111917 plus 17% superannuation.
