Job Description

The 7D Van Driver will be responsible for safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities on assigned route. Operate a school bus/van that transports students with disabilities and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated Massachusetts 7D School Transport licenseMust be 21 years of age Ability to pass random alcohol and drug test Ability to complete required Bus/Van driver safety training Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to communicate effectively Knowledge of student discipline procedures Ability to manage student behavior Ability to operate Bus/VanPHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Assist SPED students including those in wheelchairs to and from Bus as REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend workEXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESVehicle OperationFollow assigned route and adhere to established schedules. Drive bus/van to and from extracurricular activities. Check bus/van for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed all accidents vehicle damage student injuries mechanical failure and complete required records on bus/van mileage gas and oil consumption and number of passengers assigned bus/van clean and bus/van by checking fuel oil water tires lights brakes and steering to ensure bus/van can be operated safely before driving. SAFETYObserve all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses/ proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid kit fire extinguisher flags fuses crow bar and unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately any hazardous conditions along scheduled students with disabilities including those in wheelchairs get on and off bus/vans according to their individual needs. Learn and adapt to each students special medical physical communicative and emotional students as they board and leave bus and cross with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administratorInstruct students on safe riding rules and DUTIESOperate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office. Work irregular hours as and complete required training program to maintain certification duties as USED: School bus or light van wheelchair lift ramp locks seatbelts harnesses car seats special adaptive equipment safety equipment (flares reflective signs) fire CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions; pushing pulling moderate lifting. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle : Up to 30 hours per week. Additional weekend/evening work may be available.
