Location
Based at our Fort Dodge and Gilmore City operations. Regular travel between them may be required.
Position Summary & Purpose
The Night Shift Electrical Maintenance Technician supports safe reliable and efficient plant operations by maintaining troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment up to 480 volts. This role focuses on unplanned equipment issues during night operations as well as preventive and predictive maintenance.
The position works closely with the day-shift Electrician who provides technical guidance mentoring and support for complex troubleshooting and design standards. The two roles are paired to ensure 24-hour coverage with the Electrician focusing on higher-level design and standards and the Technician focused on consistent execution reliability and communication.
Key Responsibilities
1) Safety & Compliance
Work safely at all times and model safe behaviors.
Follow lockout/tagout arc flash practices PPE requirements and all plant safety procedures.
Ensure all work complies with applicable codes and company standards.
2) Operations Support & Troubleshooting
Respond quickly to unplanned equipment issues to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot and repair motors controls sensors relays and electrical devices.
Support mechanical repairs and assist the operations team as needed.
Provide detailed hand-off notes for the day-shift Electrician and Maintenance Manager.
3) Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
Perform inspections cleaning torque checks and calibration for assigned equipment.
Use predictive maintenance tools such as thermal imaging ultrasonic testing and standard electrical test equipment.
Maintain lighting and emergency systems at the plant.
Document root causes and corrective actions.
4) Documentation and Systems
Record work orders parts used and accurate repair notes in the CMMS.
Communicate repair status and risks clearly to Maintenance Manager and day-shift Electrician.
Provide feedback on recurring issues to support reliability improvements.
Education Skills & Experience
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Electrical and mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
Ability to read schematics blueprints and maintenance routines.
Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
Clear communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred
Technical training or apprenticeship in electrical or industrial maintenance.
Experience with aggregates minerals or similar process industries.
Familiarity with PLCs VFDs and predictive maintenance tools.
Experience with CMMS systems and structured reporting.
