Job Description

Under general supervision the Academic Technology Specialist is primarily responsible for managing maintaining and supporting the use of the colleges learning management system (D2L Brightspace) and coordinating the integration of associated academic and instructional systems software and programs used to support and advance successful teaching and learning and equity and inclusion outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

1. Learning Management System (LMS) and Academic Technologies Administration and Support

  • Serve as the administrator of Brightspace D2L (LMS) managing user accounts course shells roles/permissions integrations term settings and updates and effectively analyze and resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate test and implement third-party instructional tools within the LMS (e.g. publisher content Turnitin)
  • Maintain documentation and SOPs for LMS processes; ensure continuity through cross-training support staff or backups
  • Liaise with academic technology vendors to coordinate technical support and resolve issues
  • Partner with the colleges Information Technology and Institutional Research staff to manage and monitor data integration in support of academic technologies
  • Partner with the AASC Academic Technology Workgroup to inform campus decisions
  • Ensuring the LMS is aligned with MinnState by supporting compliance with FERPA and data privacy requirements
  • Performing independent analysis of reports to inform stakeholders
  • Aligning work with the priorities of relevant college and system committees task forces and work groups

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 70%

2. Academic Technology Innovation Support

  • Documenting processes for applying the LMS and other academic technologies to improvestudent engagement and learning outcomes
  • Analyzing internal and external trends to identify emerging academic technologies that could positively impact equity and inclusion outcomes
  • Documenting recommending and managing new academic technology pilot projects including coordinating with vendors faculty and other stakeholders

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 15%

3. Academic Technology Training and Instruction

  • Developing and curating training materials on the operation and optimization of academic technology tools to ensure that they are well understood by faculty staff and students
  • Planning coordinating and facilitating training opportunities about the use of academic technologies

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 10%

4. Other Duties as Assigned
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. Pursue ongoing professional technical development through coaching and formal training.

Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5%

Salary Range:

$25.29 ($52805) - $36.71 ($76650)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates or two-year degree from an accredited institution or 1-3 years or equivalent experience in Instructional Design and support
  • Experience in curriculum design learning theory (especially adult learning) and best practices in online education
  • Experience with technology-enabled teaching and learning
  • Experience with learning management system administration
  • Experience working with people with varied technological backgrounds

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Instructional Design Instructional Technology Education or a related field teaching or training experience and understanding of adult learning and pedagogy
  • 3 years of experience with an emphasis on supporting academic software and LMS technology
  • Experience developing training materials and facilitating effective training experiences in higher education
  • Experience leading complex user-focused technology implementations
