Job Description

Were looking for Field Service Engineer Interns who are ready to jumpstart their careers in the power industry. This is more than just an internship its your opportunity to gain hands-on experience learn from seasoned engineers and contribute to real projects at major power plants hydroelectric dams and industrial facilities across the country. As part of our internship program youll receive mentorship on-the-job training and meaningful responsibilities that build the foundation for a successful engineering career.
What Youll Do:
  • Assist in inspecting testing and commissioning low medium and high voltage systems (480V600kV) across customer sites
  • Help conduct power transformer testing: Doble TTR insulation resistance and more
  • Support relay testing (electromechanical and solid-state) and calibration tasks
  • Aid in cable testing using Tan Delta Power Factor VLF and DC Hi-Pot methods
  • Help troubleshoot and repair automatic transfer switches under supervision
  • Participate in switchgear and circuit breaker testing to verify functionality
  • Assist in verifying control circuit operations for substation and switchgear systems
  • Support moderate relay calibration and power metering accuracy checks
  • Read and interpret technical drawings schematics and procedures
  • Work with the field service team on project startups shutdowns and maintenance events
  • Learn and apply industry safety practices and follow all safety regulations
  • Travel to customer sites and support a variety of electrical testing activities
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise electrical hazards and elevated work areas
The Experience Were Looking For:
  • Academic background or coursework in Power Systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with low medium and high voltage systems up to 500kV
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Comfortable reading schematics and technical drawings
  • Enthusiastic eager to learn and safety-conscious
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced environments and adapt quickly
Additional Requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Power & Controls Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field (ABET-accredited preferred)
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across the continental U.S.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather at heights in confined spaces and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery
  • Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs and enduring extended physical activity
  • Requires good vision hearing and English proficiency for safe effective communication in noisy environments
Bonus Points for:
  • Exposure to engineering tools like AutoCAD or MATLAB
  • TWIC card
  • NETA Certification (Level II or higher) in progress
  • An electrician license or hands-on electrical experience
  • Experience using Doble PowerDB or similar field testing software
