Are you a rising junior or senior looking for hands-on experience in insurance Kinsale Insurance is offering a paid summer internship in underwriting a career path built on research data analysis and sound judgment. This opportunity will give you exposure to the insurance industry meaningful project work and access to industry leaders.
About Kinsale Insurance
Kinsale Insurance is an excess and surplus (E&S) lines insurer headquartered in Richmond VA. We pride ourselves on high-quality service innovative solutions and a culture that rewards initiative and collaboration. All of our underwriting is managed in-house at our new Richmond office.
What Youll Do
A typical day as an Underwriting Intern may include:
- Researching and processing finance premium notices.
- Entering broker submissions accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Analyzing and processing loss run requests from brokers and policyholders.
- Preparing endorsements for audits and issuing them to brokers.
- Reviewing and assembling documentation for underwriting files.
- Completing other assigned projects to support underwriting teams.
Qualifications
A successful candidate has:
- Rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelors degree (finance economics business administration or related).
- Strong problem-solving and research abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
A compelling candidate also has:
- Academic focus in risk management and insurance.
Training & Development
- Weekly Lunch & Learns with leaders on career technical and industry topics.

- Executive meet-and-greets.
- Shadowing opportunities across multiple underwriting divisions.
Hiring Timeline
- Phone screens: November December 2025
- Interviews: January February 2026
- Offers extended after interviews
- Internship: 10 weeks beginning May 26 2026
- Work hours: Onsite in Richmond VA MondayThursday 8:30 a.m.4:00 p.m.
