SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF BUS DRIVERS: Responsible for safe and orderly transportation of students with/without disabilities on assigned route. Operate a school bus minibus/van that transports students with and without disabilities and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated Massachusetts Class B drivers license with S and P endorsements (or willing to obtain)Valid DOT School Bus Certificate (or willing to obtain)First Aid CPR certifiedMust be 21 years of age Ability to pass random alcohol and drug test Ability to complete required Bus/Van driver safety training Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to communicate effectively Knowledge of student discipline procedures Ability to manage student behavior Ability to operate Bus/VanEXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Vehicle OperationFollow assigned route and adhere to established schedules. Drive bus/van to and from extracurricular activities. Check bus/van for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed all accidents vehicle damage student injuries mechanical failure and complete required records on bus/van mileage gas and oil consumption and number of passengers assigned bus/van clean and bus/van by checking fuel oil water tires lights brakes and steering to ensure bus/van can be operated safely before driving. SafetyObserve all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses/ proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid kit fire extinguisher flags fuses crow bar and unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately any hazardous conditions along scheduled students with disabilities including those in wheelchairs get on and off bus/vans according to their individual needs. Learn and adapt to each students special medical physical communicative and emotional students as they board and leave bus and cross with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administratorInstruct students on safe riding rules and DutiesOperate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office. Work irregular hours as and complete required training program to maintain certification duties as USED: School bus Mini bus or light van wheelchair lift ramp locks seatbelts harnesses car seats special adaptive equipment safety equipment (flares reflective signs) fire CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions; pushing pulling moderate lifting. Work inside and outside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle : Up to 30 hours per week with the potential for more. This is a benefit eligible position.
