Department Information

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to support the universitys goals for student learning by creating opportunities for personal and professional enrichment. The Units purpose is to provide support and services inside and outside the classroom upholding campus integrity respect inclusivity intercultural competence healthy living excellence innovation as well as being student-centered advocates. The Division of Student Affairs supports academic and student success by providing students with co-curricular learning opportunities that enhance growth and development of their person guiding students to attain healthy and successful lives.

The mission of Disability Resources at Colorado State University Pueblo is to ensure the provision of reasonable academic accommodations and support designed to enhance academic effectiveness and promote independence in students with documented disabilities.

Description of Job

The Access Coordinator will support Colorado State University Pueblos compliance functions and Disability Resources mission to ensure the provision of reasonable academic accommodations and support for students with various disabilities. Such support includes maintaining a caseload of students with disabilities and coordinating related services such as production of alternate format course materials or managing the notetaking program. The Access Coordinator will assist the Director with program operations serving the University through relevant student support and compliance initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Primary Duties

Student Access Accommodations

  • Engage in interactive process with students to determine specific accommodation eligibility. Interpret comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations medical reports and other documentation presented by students to determine program eligibility. Determine appropriate reasonable adjustments and modifications based on the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and other applicable federal state and local laws.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records. Track ongoing and recurrent cases and follow up with students as needed. Provide ongoing feedback regarding case management to the Director.
  • Collaborate with faculty/staff on the delivery of accommodations and faculty/staff responsibilities in the process. Mediate issues raised by students or faculty/staff regarding the accommodation eligibility plan.
  • Coach and support students with disabilities as needed to facilitate the development of self-advocacy skills effective time management and learning strategies. Provide guidance to students regarding on and off campus resources that serve people with disabilities.

Coordinating Accommodation Services
  • Collaborate with the Director to ensure provision of the following support services as deemed appropriate by department and division needs.
    • Alternate Format Production: Track student requests for accessible course materials; train and supervise student employees in the production of accessible course materials; and independently produce accessible course materials during peak request periods.
    • Effective Communication Services: Track effective communication requests from students; schedule services with appropriate vendors; update vendors for changes to scheduled services.
    • Notetaking Support:Track requests for notetaking support; hire and supervise student notetaking support staff.
    • Adaptive Equipment Inventory:Track requests for loans of adaptive equipment for use by qualifying students; maintain inventory of equipment; and arrange for placement retrieval or storage as needed.
    • Mentorship Program:Track requests for student mentors; supervise assigned mentors; and support mentorship program events as needed.

Representation of Disability Resources
  • Serve as a liaison to the university providing consultation regarding disability access and accommodation issues.
  • Participate in outreach activities for new and potential students through events such as New Student Orientation and Visit Days.
  • Serve on relevant university committees and initiatives impacting the enrollment retention and persistence of students with disabilities.
  • Represent the interests of Disability Resources in the absence of the Director.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution in rehabilitation counseling social sciences education or a related field
  • Familiarity with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended).
  • Familiarity with FERPA.
  • Written verbal and electronic communication skills able to express complex information with sensitivity to issues of diversity.
  • Critical thinking skills to make decisions and analyze data.
  • Ability to operate within a busy office environment shared by multiple different programs.
  • At least one year of professional experience working directly with students in a higher education environment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree from an accredited institution in rehabilitation counseling social sciences education or a related field
  • At least one year of professional experience working with a student population reflective of CSU Pueblos diversity.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of postsecondary disability accommodations.
  • Experience working independently and in close collaboration with others to support team goals and objectives.
  • Experience working with case management systems (e.g. Maxient Accessible Information Management Accommodate).
  • Experience with remediating materials for accessibility compliance.
