Military-Affiliated Student Center Assistant Director

Experience working with Veterans and/or military-affiliated populations.

Experience working in student affairs within higher education.

Job Description:

If so The Military-Affiliated Student Center within the Dean of Students Office at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for the role of Military-Affiliated Student Center Assistant Director! This position will be classified as a Student Services Specialist II.

What Youll Do:

  • Administer programs and services with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of military-affiliated students ensuring effective support.

  • Supervise VA Work Study Students including oversight of hiring and onboarding processes in coordination with both the University and the VA Education Office.

  • Conduct regular training professional development sessions and performance evaluations.

  • Meet individually with student employees to set goals address concerns and provide career mentoring that fosters transferable skills and career readiness.

  • Participate in the development and assessment of departmental co-curricular initiatives to enhance student engagement and success.

  • Serve as the webmaster and content manager for the Military-Affiliated Student Center (MASC) website ensuring timely updates and accurate information.

  • Monitor and manage the MASC email account providing prompt thoughtful responses to stakeholder inquiries and forwarding messages to appropriate personnel as needed.

About Military-Affiliated Student Center:

The Military-Affiliated Student Center provides academic support transition assistance and advocacy for students who are Active-Duty Service Members Veterans ROTC cadets Reservists National Guard Dependents and military-connected students.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Applies broad working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex difficult and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students
