Job Description

Director of Procurement

(Exempt)

The Director of Procurement will work remotely and report to the Chief Supply Chain Officer. The Director of Procurement will lead a team of procurement professionals playing a crucial role in ensuring the companys sourcing strategies are aligned with its growth and operational goals. This individual will oversee supplier relationships negotiate contracts and drive cost-saving initiatives while ensuring the highest quality of ingredients. The Director of Procurement will also work closely with cross-functional teams to manage the companys procurement processes and ensure continuity of supply. Travel could be required up to 50% to supplier meetings the Brownwood facility and relevant trade shows. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of market dynamics supplier management and procurement best practices

The key responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that support the companys manufacturing and operational goals
  • Lead and mentor the procurement team driving accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent supply and optimal pricing
  • Negotiate contracts terms and pricing while ensuring quality and supply chain reliability.
  • Monitor market trends and understand the trading markets impact on ingredient profiles and availability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing finance and quality control to optimize procurement processes
  • Ensure compliance with all procurement policies and procedures maintaining high ethical standards
  • Travel to supplier meetings facility visits and trade shows as required (25-50%)
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8-10 years of experience in procurement in the dry pet food or human food industries. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong leadership and procurement success
  • Strong understanding of the trading market and its impact on procurement strategies and ingredient profiles
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar procurement software
  • Co-manufacturing experience is preferred but not required
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience required
  • Must be eligible to work in the US
  • Must be willing to submit a background check and pre-employment drug screening

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Dynamic and strategic leader with significant procurement experience in the dry pet food or human food sectors
  • Proven track record of successfully managing supplier relationships and driving procurement efficiency while maintaining product quality
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to drive team performance and accountability
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proven ability to drive cost savings while maintaining supplier relationships
  • Intuitive and strategic thinker capable of balancing big-picture strategies with the details of procurement processes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Results-driven with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Must be able to relay accurate information via multiple communication vehicles including verbal and written mechanisms
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office technology
  • Ability to observe details at close range
  • Occasionally travel for work up to (25% - 50%) of the time
  • Occasionally Ascend/descend stairs
