Job Description

School Finance Partner

Location: Grand Rapids MI US
Work Type: Onsite Permanent
Salary: As per Exp.

Job Summary

The School Finance Partner at Client is a key member of a high-functioning and fast-moving team responsible for supporting schools and student needs by monitoring analyzing and advising on budget decisions for multiple funding sources. This role reports directly to the Manager of School Finance within the Financial Services group and ensures compliance with state and federal financial requirements grant applications and budget management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with school leadership and supporting departments to develop review and adjust school budgets.

  • Monitor and evaluate spending against budgets for sustainability allowability and program alignment.

  • Prepare and report financial statements and spending updates using multiple data and financial platforms.

  • Apply for and manage grants including creating and submitting applications and amendments.

  • Maintain expertise on federal state and local financial laws and compliance regulations.

  • Advocate for schools financial needs with departments of education school boards and charter authorizers.

  • Provide clear proactive communication to internal and external stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service.

  • Assist with programmatic and financial audits as needed.

  • Handle sensitive information with strict confidentiality.

Non-Negotiable Requirements
  1. Bachelors degree (Accounting Business or related field required).

  2. Experience in business accounting or a related field.

  3. High proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).

  4. Ability to analyze and summarize large amounts of data and manage multiple tasks under strict timelines.

Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Prior experience in education finance charter school systems or public sector budgeting.

  • Familiarity with grant management and compliance at the state/federal level.

  • Experience using financial reporting tools and ERP systems.

  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
