About Frencken Mechatronics
At Frencken we develop and manufacture high-tech mechatronic systems and modules for leading international customers in the semiconductor medical analytical and industrial markets. As an intern you will work on a challenging real-life project where your work directly contributes to smarter production planning and decision-making.
Project Goal:

The model will estimate future production capacity by leveraging historical and forecasted data such as turnover product dimensions assembly hours and other relevant metrics. You will also contribute to stakeholder training and strengthen our data governance agreements.
Assignment Scope:
Understanding the Business Context
- Conduct interviews with assembly personnel production engineers plant director sales IT and business engineers.
- Document current production processes and capacity planning methods.
- Identify key variables influencing production capacity.
Data Collection & Preparation
- Map existing data sources (ERP MES SharePoint etc.).
- Define required data fields such as turnover forecast product size assembly hours.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure consistent and accurate data entry.
- Design and implement ETL processes to automate data ingestion and transformation.
Model Development
- Explore and evaluate machine learning algorithms suitable for time-series forecasting and regression.
- Train and validate models using historical production data.
- Integrate the model into Power BI (using Azure ML Python scripts or Power BI ML integration).
Automation & Deployment
- Automate the full data flow: from source to model to dashboard visualization.
- Ensure the solution is scalable and maintainable.
- Set up monitoring and alerting for data quality and model performance.
Stakeholder Enablement
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops for end-users (Plant Director Business Engineering Manager Production Engineering).
- Create documentation for model usage interpretation and maintenance.
- Support the establishment of data ownership update frequency and transformation rules.
Deliverables
- A fully functional Power BI dashboard with integrated ML model.
- A documented and deployed automated data pipeline.
- Training materials and onboarding sessions for stakeholders.
- A final report describing the methodology results and recommendations.
What are we looking for
- You are currently enrolled in an HBO program as a 3rd year student at a Dutch university (hogeschool) preferably in the field of Data Science Business Intelligence or Industrial Engineering.
- Knowledge of machine learning and data modeling.
- Experience with Power BI and affinity with data visualization.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Interest in production processes and capacity planning is a plus.
