Introduction:
The FAA Weather Camera (WCAM) and Visual Weather Observation System (VWOS) programs are composed of hundreds of sites with thousands of cameras to enhance aviation safety. The entire network is viewable from our cloud based web application . The program is tasked with implementing new FAA Weather Cameras (WCAM) and Visual Weather Observation Systems (VWOS) across Alaska Hawaii and CONUS to support congressional mandates.
We are seeking a highly motivated detail oriented Third-Party Camera implementation Lead Visual Weather Observation Quality Assurance Systems Engineer to join our Visual Weather Observation System (VWOS) and Weather Cameras (WCAM) team. This role is responsible for leading Weather Cameras third-party camera implementation and supporting associated WCAM and VWOS operations. The ideal candidate has management/leadership experience and is a proactive problem-solver with strong communications skills.
The candidate will work with fielded technician teams to provide technical planning system hardware-software-communicationsdevelopment and integration remote site visual and data verification and validation. This position will support the FAA Visual Weather Observation System (VWOS) Program by coordinating and working closely with remote teams in the field to test and validate camera site installations across the country. This position will also track and troubleshoot system issues and outages update images establish new location site pages. This position will work with the team to develop implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems reporting out to the team and the customer on a regular basis and provide system reporting for system and site operations and quality assurance tracking. Finally this position will be expected to develop and implement system wide checks gathering outage and intermittent site operations data and creating consolidated reports as well as metrics data to track overall system performance. and Responsibilities:
Lead third-party weather camera implementation efforts to include external stakeholder engagement negotiation of third-party agreements documentation management and clear-day creation and validation.
Camera Alignment Support:Assist field technicians with the alignment and calibration of camera systems to ensure optimal performance and image quality.
Site Outage Monitoring: Monitor and track site outages proactively identifying issues and escalating them as needed to maintain system uptime.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of third-party implementation and operations support activities and provide regular updates to the team and management.
Add delete and update image data into the weather camera system.
Provide tech support to the field technicians for pinging sites (devices) checking live image pulls verifying all portions of the site to be active and working prior to tech departure.
Assist with camera field alignments.
Verify entries in the database are updated with new IP addresses.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with 4 years of prior relevant experience ORMasters with 2 years prior relevant experience ORadditional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree may be considered/accepted.
Mustbe able to work onsite in Anchorage AK.
Basic Network IT software and hardware skills.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite of applications (Word Excel PowerPoint)
Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
Good file management and communication/collaborationskills.
Work independently while maintaining a positive relationship with client and team.
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with no breaks).
Ability to liaise with government vendors and other stakeholdersfor problem resolution.
Preferred Skills:
Excels in facilitating individual and group communications with potential external stakeholders.
Develop and maintain positive relationships and two-way communication with current and potential stakeholders.
Proficiency in troubleshooting network connectivity issues and utilizing remote diagnostic tools.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication for coordinating with field teams and local resources.
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Basic TCP/IP understanding is beneficial.
Linux experience a plus as a lot of the troubleshooting takes place at the command line.
SSH navigating from one terminal to another is a common task.
Executing programs from command line.
Understanding of SSH keys.
Experience with monitoring systems. Alaska remote technical and engineering experience with Weather Camera OR similar systems.
This position is located in Anchorage Alaska - Must be able to work onsite in Anchorage AK
Please Note: The program budget salary for this role could fall anywhere between $90000 to $103000 with a slight wiggle room (no guarantees) based on relevant experience and assessment. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job education experience knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal equity alignment with market data applicable bargaining agreement (if any) or other law.
