Job Description

Position: HT ILP-6: Educational Assistant EA 4 Independent Living Program (ILP)

Location: Holy Trinity High School

Hours/Week: 25-31 Hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Closing Date: September 3 2025

The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in High School as part of our Independent Living Program (ILP).

Qualifications:

Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

First Aid and CPR Certification Level C

Able to swim on a regular basis

Requirements:

Support students growth in the areas of cognition communication physical and social development

Support and/or implement teacher directed programming

Work collaborative under guidance of teacher CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team

Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning

Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies

Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones

Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes

Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs

Successful implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP) if required

Manage student behaviour using strategies learned through NVCI certification (Specific requirement only)

Able to work with students with Autism or complex medical needs

Medical procedures such as catheter tube feeding feeding and swallowing support diabetic texting monitoring and regulating etc.

Swim program ability to swim in 25 meters

Ability to work with electronic devices and programs for speech and nonverbal communication

Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe

Physical ability to life and move students

Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct obsessive/compulsive trauma and stress related severe chronic depressive feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD emotional/behavioural learning and speech & language-related disabilities etc may be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail Internet and MS Office.
