PURPOSE:
The Director of Nursing Services oversees the provision of medical and dental services provided to individuals served residentially by Little City and manages the partnership with outside medical service providers.

The responsibilities of the position include the overall day to day operations of Little Citys Nurse Educators facilitation of strategic health partnerships and forecasting of emerging health/wellness trends for the residential clients at Little City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The list of essential duties and responsibilities as outlined herein is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.

1. Provides leadership for strategy mission and vision for the health and wellness of the residential clients at Little City.

2. Responsible for the agencys compliance with DHS Rule 116 and ensures that essential tasks per the Rule are delegated to the appropriate level of staff and that best practice standards are implemented and followed to maintain compliance.

3. Routinely audits the department in relation to Rule 116 standards.

4. Communicates directly with residents families medical staff nursing staff interdisciplinary team members and department leadership to coordinate care and services improve organization and implementation of plans of care to maintain quality of care and promote quality of life. This includes the coordination of the IDT for individuals transitioning back to program from hospitalization or rehabilitation care.

5. Actively leads the survey process and directs timely collection of information required by the survey team. Demonstrates concern for identified problems and undertakes corrective action while survey is in progress if appropriate. Gathers and presents supplemental documentation to avoid potential deficiencies. Collaborates with Deputy Chief Centralized Supports to develop corrective action responses.

6. Manages current health/dental partnerships/consultants and researches potential future health and wellness partnership for the benefit of the agency and the individuals we serve
7. Develop maintain and implement nursing policies and procedures that reflect current standards of nursing practice and agency philosophy of care and practices while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff. Monitor practices for effective implementation and achievement of results.

8. Directs the work flow of the Nurse Educators by managing the hiring training and supervision of departmental staff including. Promotes good interpersonal relations and teamwork among staff.

9. Ensures 24-hour availability as nursing administration resource by providing on-call and telephone access or designating an alternative qualified nursing staff member to do so.
10. Sets performance expectations and evaluates performance results of staff in a regular systematic manner and reports conclusions and recommendations to Supervisor and Human Resources.

11. Responsible for the development and implementation of the departments annual budget and regularly reviews revenue and expenses to maintain fiscal responsibility.

12. Directs the process of developing implementing and reporting of quality measurement/evaluations of medication services on a bi-annual basis.

13. Collaborate with the agencys grants program to research apply for track and monitor opportunities for health and wellness grants and initiatives.

14. Keeps abreast of current research and trends in health and wellness services in relation to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and uses knowledge to execute action plans for Little City residents.

15. Trend disease cycles and collaborate with program leadership to develop action plans to address.

16. Coordinates public health education communication and response in the instance of a public health crisis.

17. Promotes positive interactions. Maintains approachability strong communication and interpersonal skills with every individual interacted with. Trains nursing staff in the knowledge and delivery of same.

18. Protects the confidentiality of people served by the agency per HIPPA and Mental Health Code Standards.

19. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training re-training and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.

20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid license from the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse. A BSN is required but a Masters degree is preferred. Minimum 3 years supervisory experience. Prior experience with the developmentally delayed population is preferred. DHS Nurse Trainer preferred; otherwise must register and pass the class to become a DHS RN Trainer within 60 days of employment. Experience in formulating policies and procedures. Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources of the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject to sitting for prolonged periods; frequently walks stands grasps lifts holds or feels objects; occasionally stoops kneels crouches or crawls. Extended use of computer and typing is required. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working and handling office equipment. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 20 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate office equipment. Generally no occupational exposure to blood body fluids communicable diseases or other potentially infectious substances but may require performing unplanned Category III tasks (Category II). Typical office environment. This position requires the staff to travel occasionally to other Little City community sites. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
