This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
This Regulatory Section Chief is responsible for overseeing the consistent application of the rules by the regional offices in the State as well as the major permit processing unit located in Morehead City and the Minor Permit Coordinator in Wilmington. This involves tracking historical and current rules and policies to ensure the processing of applications from multiple offices and sections is performed in a consistent and lawful manner. This will involve facilitating weekly meetings with regulatory supervisors to provide guidance on complex projects across each of the regulatory programs of the Division. This position is responsible for being a primary point of contact for the division with other state and federal agencies and with the public and maintaining strong working relationships with regulatory and resource agencies.

The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) works to protect conserve and manage North Carolinas coastal resources through an integrated program of planning permitting education and research. DCM carries out the states Coastal Area Management Act the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 in the 20 coastal counties using rules and policies of the NC Coastal Resources Commission known as the CRC.
