About the Role:

The Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room by preparing the surgical environment and assisting the surgical team to ensure procedures are conducted efficiently and safely. This position requires meticulous attention to detail to maintain sterile fields and handle surgical instruments with precision. The Surgical Technologist collaborates closely with surgeons nurses and anesthesiologists to anticipate the needs of the surgical team during operations. They are responsible for setting up surgical equipment ensuring all necessary supplies are available and managing instrument sterilization and maintenance. Ultimately this role contributes directly to positive patient outcomes by supporting a smooth and safe surgical process.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments equipment and sterile drapes according to the specific procedure requirements.
  • Assist surgeons and surgical staff during operations by passing instruments and supplies anticipating their needs and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained before and after procedures.
  • Monitor and manage surgical supplies inventory to ensure availability and compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to adhere to safety standards infection control policies and regulatory requirements throughout the surgical process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent education.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from a recognized certifying body such as the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a hospital or surgical center setting.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and surgical documentation systems.
  • Strong understanding of various surgical specialties and procedures.
  • Additional training in patient safety and infection control protocols.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with surgeons and other operating room staff to anticipate needs and respond promptly during procedures.
  • Attention to detail is critical for monitoring instrument counts and maintaining compliance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Problem-solving skills help address unexpected challenges during surgeries such as equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.
  • Organizational skills support efficient inventory management and documentation contributing to the overall effectiveness of the surgical team.
