Position Purpose:
The GIS Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the development maintenance and operation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the City of Holyoke. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online coupled with a robust understanding of digitizing editing and managing geospatial data. This position requires significant fieldwork across the city utilizing GPS equipment making strong physical stamina and meticulous attention to detail essential. Experience with collection systems (e.g. sewer stormwater) is considered a valuable asset.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Digitize edit and maintain GIS data derived from engineering as-builts GPS field collection and red-lined drawings.
- Execute daily updates to the citys GIS databases to ensure accurate representation of infrastructure assets.
- Conduct GPS-based field data collection using handheld or backpack GPS units (e.g. EOS Arrow Trimble etc.).
- Generate map products and perform spatial analyses for internal departments engineering projects and presentations.
- Provide support for GIS-related requests from various departments and deliver training to staff as needed.
- Adhere to established data standards and contribute to documentation and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
- Assist with the integration of GIS data with other systems and software.
- Walk for extended periods across the city sometimes in varying weather conditions while collecting field data.
Work Environment:
- Regular fieldwork involving walking standing and carrying equipment for long periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Occasional office-based work for data processing and map production.
Qualifications :
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelors degree in Geographic Information Systems Geography Environmental Science Engineering Technology or a related field.
- 13 years of hands-on experience working with GIS preferably in a utility municipal or environmental setting.
- Experience with digitizing as-builts and editing features in geodatabases.
- Experience working with municipal infrastructure data.
- Basic scripting experience (e.g. Python or Arcade) is a plus.
- Experience with water wastewater or stormwater collection systems is highly desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in ESRIs ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online is required.
- Familiarity with GPS data collection methods and related equipment.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook).
- Familiarity with Survey123 Field Maps or Collector.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Clear communication skills both written and verbal.
Additional Information :
Pay Range: $27.00 to $33.00 per hour.
