Job Description

Adelphi is seeking Braille Instructors to provide Braille instruction for visually impaired students in a school district in Montgomery County Virginia. The Braille Instructor will deliver individualized and group instruction in reading and writing Braille assist in the adaptation of materials and collaborate with school staff to support the academic success of students with visual impairments.

Requirements:
Bachelor s degree or higher in Special Education Education of the Visually Impaired or related field.
Current certification or licensure as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) in Virginia.
Proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB) and ability to teach Braille reading and writing.
Familiarity with assistive technology for visually impaired students.
Ability to lift and move instructional materials and equipment (e.g. Braille embossers tactile printers) as required.
Experience working with students with visual impairments in an educational setting preferred.
Ability to adapt and produce Braille tactile graphics and large-print instructional materials.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with staff parents and students.

Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction in Braille reading and writing to students with visual impairments.
Adapt and produce instructional materials in Braille tactile graphics or large print as needed.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
Conduct assessments to determine students Braille literacy needs and progress.
Maintain accurate records of instruction student progress and adapted materials.
Provide consultation and training to staff and families regarding Braille use and accessibility.
Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
