Nursing Manager School-Based Individualized Care
Location: Waterbury CT
Waterbury Public Schools and associated locations (including in-school transportation and off-campus school-sponsored activities)
Position Summary:
The Nursing Manager will oversee and coordinate the delivery of school-based nursing services for students ages 3 22 with complex medical needs in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and physician directives. This leadership role ensures the safe compliant and effective implementation of individualized nursing care across multiple sites while providing clinical supervision support and training to a team of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Oversight & Staff Supervision
- Supervise and support nursing staff delivering one-on-one and group care to medically fragile students.
- Ensure competency in specialized procedures (e.g. tracheostomy care ventilator support tube feedings seizure management diabetic care).
- Provide clinical leadership mentoring and performance evaluations for school-based nurses.
2. Program Coordination & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with federal state and district health regulations including HIPAA FERPA and nursing practice standards.
- Oversee documentation practices ensuring accurate and timely nursing notes health records and Medicaid submissions.
- Conduct audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
3. Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as liaison between the nursing team school personnel healthcare providers and families to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and assist in the development and review of health-related IEP goals.
- Facilitate regular communication across stakeholders regarding student health status and service coordination.
4. Training & Professional Development
- Coordinate onboarding training and continuing education for school nurses focusing on best practices in pediatric and special education healthcare.
- Ensure staff certification in CPR/AED medication administration and relevant clinical competencies.
5. Crisis Management & Safety Oversight
- Provide guidance in emergency response situations and ensure nursing staff are equipped to implement crisis intervention plans.
- Monitor adherence to infection control practices and promote a culture of safety across all service locations.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN required MSN preferred.
Licensure & Certification:
- Active Connecticut RN license in good standing
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Medication administration certification (or ability to obtain)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 5 years of pediatric or school nursing experience
- Minimum 1 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred
- Experience working with medically complex or technology-dependent children
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of background DCF registry fingerprinting and drug screening
- Reliable transportation to travel between school sites and accompany students as needed

Work Schedule:
- Follows the school year calendar (approx. 181 days) with up to 25 additional days for extended school year (ESY) services
- Full-time typically aligned with the school day and related transportation (up to 8 hours/day)
