Job Description

Description

The Lead Sleep Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. This individual can perform the duties defined for a sleep technologist and is competent in all aspects of home sleep testing. Demonstrates organizational computer interpersonal and technical skills



Responsibilities

1. Collects analyzes and integrates patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure pertinent medical/social history).

2. Determines final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.

3. Reviews the patients history and verifies the medical order. Follows sleep center protocols related to the sleep study.

4. Upon patient arrival verifies identification collects documents and obtains consent for the study.

5. Explains the procedure and orients the patient for either in center or out of center sleep testing.

6. Selects appropriate equipment and calibrates for testing to determine proper functioning and adjusts if necessary.

7. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.

8. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

9. Follows procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) parasomnia studies PAP and oxygen titration etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data.

10. Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies corrects and documents artifact.

11. Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events changes in procedure and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

12. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure oxygen administration etc.).

13. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.

14. Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events limb movements arousals etc.) utilizing AASM standards.

15. Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

16. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment assessment and education of neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients.

17. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.

18. Performs patient education and instruction appropriate for out of center sleep testing.

19. Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.

20. Demonstrates adherence to AASM scoring parameters for OCST; identify artifact inadequate signals and study failures and generate an accurate report.

21. Complies with applicable laws regulations guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

22. Performs routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.

23. Assists with inpatient sleep studies both clinical and research

24. Assists with inventory and supply/equipment ordering

25. Assists with quality assurance checks infection control monitoring and corporate compliance

26. Complete all ad hoc projects and tasks as required or as directed by the supervisor or site director



Qualifications

Education Requirements

1. High school graduate or the equivalent.

2. Associate or higher degree program in polysomnographic technology preferred.

Experience Requirements

5 years minimum experience as a Polysomnographic Technician or Technologist.

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable)

1. Authorized Polysomnographic Technologist licensed in New York State in good standing

2. Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.

3. Current CPR or BLS certification

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50.69 - $50.69 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience education and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
